The Tiny Miracles Foundation
is a Netherlands-based, charitable organization that focuses on
building the ‘City of Miracles’ right next to red light
district in Mumbai, India.
It is a 150 meter stretch
on which a community of 115 families lives, right on the pavement.
Adjacent to this pavement slum is the dangerous red light district.
Our ambition is to enable this entire community to break out of
poverty by 2020.
By the end of 2020 the “City of Miracles” will be self
sustaining and be a home to strong middle class citizens.
In partnership with the Hamara
Foundation we have been creating our targets to meet UNICEF
standards. Our city's population will have broken out of the poverty
cycle once they move from being assessed as 'very poor' to 'middle
class' citizens.
Financially this means increasing the income of each adult family
member from less than 0.75 euros to 8 euros per day.
These figures correspond with the International Poverty Line.
It also means equipping them with formal English education, access
to health facilities and doctors, a basic understanding of healthcare,
psychological and social support, and some financial know how.
Last but not least we want to help them make happy childhood memories,
exploring creativity, unleashing talent and smiling along the
way.
In short, the Tiny Miracles Foundation aims to brighten up lives
in one of India's poorest areas. |
